Nic Porter, OLY: AquaTraveler, more than a tour or How international water polo experiences shape young athletes

A journey shaped by Water Polo

Throughout my water polo journey - from representing my country on the Olympic stage to competing professionally around the world - I've been incredibly fortunate to experience the sport in so many different environments.

Every team, every country, and every tournament has taught me something new, not only about water polo but about people, culture, and the opportunities that sport creates.

That's why I'm genuinely excited to be partnering with Aquafeed and Aquatraveller. For me, this partnership is about much more than sport. It's about creating opportunities for young athletes to experience the incredible benefits that come from stepping outside their comfort zone, competing internationally, and making lifelong memories through sport.

Lessons that go beyond the swimming pool

One of the greatest gifts Water Polo has given me is the chance to travel the world. I've had the opportunity to represent different professional clubs and the Australian National Team, competed against the best players in our sport, and experienced cultures that I may never have encountered otherwise.

Those experiences have shaped me just as much as the hours spent training in the pool.

When you travel with your teammates, you grow together. You learn to adapt, communicate, and support each other in unfamiliar environments. You gain confidence, independence, and a broader perspective that extends well beyond the game itself. These are lessons that stay with you for life.

Why international Water Polo tours are different

International water polo tours provide something that simply can't be replicated at home.

Playing against different styles of water polo challenges athletes to think differently and develop new skills. Training with overseas clubs exposes players to different coaching philosophies and approaches to the game. Competing in unfamiliar environments builds resilience and adaptability. It’s not just about becoming a better player. It's about creating friendships with athletes from around the world, exploring new places, embracing different cultures, and developing as a person.

Some of my favourite memories in water polo haven't just come from winning champopnships - they've come from the people I've met, the places I've visited, and the shared experiences with teammates along the way.

The AquaTraveler Difference

Organising an international sports tour is no small task. There are countless moving parts - from accommodation and transport to fixtures, training venues, and logistics. That's where AquaTraveler makes such a difference. The AquaTraveler team understands water polo because they understand the people involved in the sport. They create tours that allow athletes, coaches, and families to focus on what really matters: enjoying the experience, developing as players, and making the most of every opportunity.

Whether it's arranging competitive matches against quality opposition, organising training sessions with local clubs, or ensuring every aspect of the trip runs smoothly, AquaTraveler delivers experiences that are both professionally organised and genuinely memorable.

You’re really being exposed to the best conditions on an AquaTraveler tour!

A Shared Vision for Young Athletes

I'm proud to be working alongside Aquafeed and AquaTraveler because we share the same belief - that Water Polo has the power to inspire, educate, and connect people.

My hope is that more young players have the chance to experience international water polo, not only because it will improve their game, but because it will broaden their horizons and create memories they'll carry with them forever.

Water polo has given me opportunities I could never have imagined when I first picked up a ball. If even a handful of athletes can discover that same passion, confidence, and love for the game through an AquaTraveler tour, then that's something I'm incredibly proud to support.

I'm excited for what's ahead, and I look forward to helping more players experience everything our amazing sport has to offer - both in and out of the pool.
